LISA Academy Programme

The LISA Academy Programme runs in the final two years of school. It is for students who cannot sit the Austrian Matura because of their German language skills. A higher membership fee applies, which covers the extra costs of the programme. Because it is a two-year programme, students cannot join once the first IB year has already started.

Six IB subjects: Students choose six IB Diploma subjects. Under the IB Diploma rules, three are taken at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL). The school sets some of the subjects in advance based on each student’s language ability. Theory of Knowledge (TOK), CAS, and the Extended Essay are compulsory. LISA Academy students complete the full IB Diploma, not individual certificates.

Sport: Physical education is a compulsory subject.

Languages: LISA Academy students take at least two languages: their mother-tongue course (English, or a Self-Taught language) and one foreign language. Whatever languages they choose for the IB Diploma, all Academy students also attend a German as a Foreign Language course run by the school. Students can then take German B (SL or HL) or German Ab Initio as one of their IB Diploma subjects.

The IB Diploma Programme is taught in the final two years (11th and 12th grade). It is recognised for university admission worldwide, including in Austria. At the LISA, the IB Diploma is offered alongside the Austrian Reifeprüfung (“Matura”).
