Chess at the National Finals!

This year, our school proudly qualified for the national school chess championship. Our students competed brilliantly and finished in an impressive 6th place out of schools from across Austria.

This year, our chess team qualified for the national school finals (Bundesfinale Schulschach I), where they finished in sixth place with seven match points. We congratulate Lev Pomazanov (4L) for winning the individual board prize on board 4!

Chess has been growing steadily at the Europagymnasium for a number of years now. Alongside an elective course (unverbindliche Übung), the school hosts two school competitions each year: the “Weihnachtsturnier” and the “Schulschlussturnier”. There is also a Chess Project Day at the end of the school year. Chess brings together students from our own school branches Kepler, eLLA and LISA, as well as from our neighbouring school HAK, a wonderful example of the game uniting people across schools and regions.

We are incredibly proud of our students for qualifying and representing us so well. A big thank you goes to Thomas Gierlinger for organising and nurturing chess at our school.
