Admission Criteria

Review of Online Application: Your application will be reviewed only after the online application is completed and the non-refundable application fee of EUR 120 has been paid.

⚠️ Please note: A rejection may occur at any stage of the application process. We strongly recommend applicants carefully review the following criteria before applying.

  1. Availability of Places: Class sizes are limited. Please contact the school or visit the OpenApply platform to find out which vacancies are still available.
  1. Age Requirements:
  • Minimum age: 10 years old by September 1st for entry into Year 1 (Grade 5).
  • Entry into the IB Diploma Programme (Years 7 & 8) is possible only until the age of 17.
  1. Reason for Application: Priority is given to international families relocating to Linz due to employment. Applicants must live in Linz or surrounding areas with their parents or legal guardians.
  1. Academic Performance & Language Skills*: We assess previous academic achievement and language proficiency through school records and placement tests. See “Required Documents” and “Placement Test Information” for details.
  1. Personal Profile: We value students with strong motivation, positive conduct, and a proactive approach to learning. Recommendation letters from previous schools are highly appreciated.
  1. Visa Requirements: Applicants must already have a valid visa before enrolling. The school will not accept students who intend to obtain Austrian residency after being admitted.
  1. Positive Placement Tests – Academic Assessment: All applicants must complete placement tests. These tests help evaluate academic suitability, language support needs, and potential for success in our academic programme.
  • Duration: 2–3 hours
  • Assessment Areas: Academic readiness, language proficiency, tutoring needs
  • IB Compatibility: Evaluated by the IB Coordinator where applicable
  1. Positive Interview: Successful applicants will be invited to a personal interview (20–60 minutes) based on the information in the online application.
  • Attendance: The student and at least one parent must attend
  • Purpose: To get to know the applicant and family
  • Residency: Only students living with their parents/family in Linz or the surrounding areas are eligible

Formal Decision on Admission: Our headmaster, coordinators, and admission department are involved in the processing and managing your application to the Linz International School Auhof. If your application is not accepted at any stage in the admissions process, we shall notify you by email.

*Alternative Language Courses: If neither German nor English meets the required academic level, alternative language courses may be offered in the following languages: Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovene, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish

    • Cambridge FCE for Schools (Level B2 – CEFR)
    • Oxford English for Schools (Level B2 – CEFR)
    • IELTS Academic: Overall Band Score 7.0
